FARMSTEAD

Joe and I fell in love with Bear Lake and purchased our first property in 1988 on the Idaho side. We were lucky enough to have an opportunity in 1990 to purchase a lot on the lake 1.2 miles from downtown Garden City. We built a year-round home and settled into our new space December of 1992, creating countless cherished memories for our family and friends across three generations.

It is because of these fond memories we began looking for property for purchase to preserve some of the aspects of Garden City we love most:

• Our kids being able to walk down to the General Store where Linda spoiled our kids and allowed them to sign for items.

• Raspberry Days: parade, rodeo, dance

• The farming and nature around us.

• My brother and his family coming up every year to do the raspberry U-Pick.

• The Lake adventures.

• Hiking in and around Bear Lake and Logan Canyon

With this project our desire is:

• Preserve farming history.

• Preserve farmland.

• Education for students, locals, and tourists.

• Something to do when not on the lake and

• Support the local economy.

Twelve years ago, we established Frog Bench Farms (FBF) in Salt Lake City. We now support 22 restaurants, have an annual plant sale, participate in the Winter Farmers Markets and the Summer Farmers Market. Currently we grow a large variety of fruits, vegetable, herbs, edible flowers, and micro greens. Additionally, we produce secondary products by using what we grow on site that includes dried herbs, freeze dried fruits and vegetable, vinegar from the grapes we grow on site, fresh and dried flower bouquets. We are planning on entering the value-added market this winter with additional items such as cookies and hydrosols. Please visit our site, Frogbenchfarms.com, to see what we have accomplished.

Our proposed program includes:

• A boat barn with living space above, storage and education space below to help bring income to the project. This is almost complete.
